In 2023 we broke the world record for the largest crystal structure model (over 60,000 atoms, see the picture below with some of us around it).  One intention we had when starting the project, was that we wanted to break down the model after and send ‘Crystal Explorer Kits’ to primary schools all over Australia and New Zealand.

Why? because we think our science (crystallography) is very translatable to support primary school science (and maths and art) through the theme of patterns.  The Crystal Explorer Kits come with a teaching booklet, with tested instructions for self-guided students to make four different structures - the activities are suitable for years 4-6.

We have completed the project and sent out 775 kits to 697 different primary schools across Australia and New Zealand!
