In 2023 we broke the world record for the largest crystal structure model (over 60,000 atoms, see the picture below with some of us around it).  One intention we had when starting the project, was that we wanted to break down the model after and send ‘Crystal Explorer Kits’ to primary schools all over Australia and New Zealand.

Why? because we think our science (crystallography) is very translatable to support primary school science (and maths and art) through the theme of patterns.  The Crystal Explorer Kits come with a teaching booklet, with tested instructions for self-guided students to make four different structures - the activities are suitable for years 4-6.  We have 800 of these kits and are distributing them FREE to Primary schools from May 2025 - look out for an email to your science coordinator!

As we only have 800 kits to give out at this point, we are limiting to one per school, unless your school has over 400 students – in which case you can request two.

Because of the limited number we're only distributing to Primary Schools (sorry), but home school and high schools can request a download of the teaching booklet though the link below.
